The City of Armadale announced the winners of its Focus 2017 photograph competition last weekend.
The competition was open to adult amateur photographers from the city with the theme ‘Our Corner Stores’.
A total of 63 entries were submitted and Helen Gordon picked up the top prize for her piece Town and Country Fruit and Veg – Old Shop/New Shop.
Christy Wintle came second with River Road Deli and Julie Beatson was third with Alan Beatties Meats.
The city also gave mention to Kerry Faulkner for her piece Norm’s Lunchbar.
Winners received prizes including cash and vouchers up to $500 in value and had their work professionally mounted.
City of Armadale mayor Henry Zelones said many of the photos did well to capture the city’s many iconic corner stores.
“The local corner store is getting rarer every year and before they fade from the horizon we are keen to document these unique and often quaint shops,” he said.
“The city is very keen to continue to build upon Birtwistle Local Studies Library’s Picture Armadale photographic collection and that’s where the community can assist with their local knowledge of these hidden gems.”
Picture Armadale was an online photograph album offered by the City of Armadale Library which housed more than 1000 historical images from the area’s past.
It was deactivated in May but the library said it was expected to return in an updated form by September.
The winning photographs from Focus 2017 will be on display at the Armadale Library until June 23.
