Former Canning councillor Jesse Jacobs has been censured for making false and misleading comments about mayor Patrick Hall.

The Local Government Standards Panel found he made the statements to a journalist that were published on The West Australian newspaper on August 25 and 26 in 2021.

The statements were in breach of regulation 18 of the Local Government (Model Code of Conduct) Regulations.

“I accept that I should not have made the relevant comments which were false, misleading and intended to detriment mayor Patrick Hall and the Council of the City of Canning,” he said.

“I now apologise to mayor Patrick Hall, my former fellow Councillors and the public.”
