Gala dinner looking to beat record

Arthur from the Good Sammys is extremely appreciative of the funds raised by the 2022 Mayor's Charity Gala Dinner.

Following the success of the 2022 event, this year’s Mayor Charity Gala Dinner is seeking to surpass the $70,000 raised previously, further supporting the work of Good Sammy’s in the City of Canning.

The bi-annual gala dinner will this year be held on Friday, November 8, at the Riverton Leisureplex.

As the major beneficiaries of the 2022 dinner, Good Sammy’s Gardening Social Enterprise and Traineeships Program members have seen first-hand the significant impact of donations and are confirmed as the primary beneficiaries once again this year.

Arthur, a participant in the Good Sammy’s program, shared how it has allowed him to contribute meaningfully to the community.

“I’m a person with a disability, showing that anyone with a disability can do what they like. It has been great for me; I enjoy the outdoor life,” Arthur said.

“It’s like therapy for me because of the fresh air. Just like how I nurture the garden, Good Sammy has nurtured me with their help, guidance and support.”

Funds raised from the 2022 Gala Dinner have also supported five traineeships for students with disabilities and helped three residents obtain C Class driver’s licences and two secure forklift licences, boosting their employment opportunities.

Patrick Hall, the Mayor of the City of Canning, said that Good Sammy’s is a much-loved charity deeply committed to the local community.

“The benefits of their programs will be realised right here in Canning, creating immediate and lasting positive impacts,” Mayor Hall said.

“Good Sammy’s dedication to empowering individuals with disabilities and promoting environmental sustainability aligns perfectly with the City’s values and goals.”

Whether it’s by becoming an event sponsor, donating an auction item or service, or making a direct donation, the council is seeking your support.

Individual tickets are priced at $203.50 and are available for purchase until October 18.

Hosted by Tim Gossage, the night will also feature iconic Aussie comedian Peter Rowsthorn, music from the band SWITCH, an auction and raffle, all complemented by canapés and drinks on arrival, a curated three-course dinner, and a beverage package included in your ticket.
