Geraldine Gustavo named festival artist for 2025

30
Congratulations to Geraldine Gustavo who is the 2025 Armadale Arts Festival Artist.

This year’s honorary Armadale Arts Festival Artist will use the platform to encourage everyone to explore their artistic side.

The City of Armadale has announced Geraldine Gustavino as the 2025 festival artist – an appointment that celebrates the accomplishments of a local artist and what they contribute to our community.

Geraldine’s vision for Armadale Arts Festival is to bring the community together, and engage local artists and residents in the process.

Free canvasses will be distributed, and community members will have the opportunity to create their own work of art, via the ‘What Armadale Means To You’ theme.

“Art gets me excited and when I paint it is just me, the canvas, and feelings each stroke of colour makes me experience,” Geraldine said.

“To everyone who says ‘I can’t paint’, I would like to encourage you to just take a canvas, colour and let yourself be lost in the magic you feel when you let yourself go.  Enjoy the journey.”

Geraldine was born in Gibraltar, and moved to Perth in her early twenties.

Geraldine joined the Armadale Society of Artists in 2015 as a committee member, holds leadership positions, and was a major factor in the success of the first two Extensions Exhibitions, held as part of Armadale Arts Festival.

She hosts regular art classes at the ASA Studio, actively supports and nurtures children with art classes, and hosts a range of workshops for all abilities.

She’s won many awards, including the Gibraltar May Festival Artist Award in 1989, and third prize in the Armadale Society of Artists Awards in 2018.

She has also won the People’s Choice Award in: Belmont (2016), Bayswater (2019), and with the Armadale Society of Artists (ASA) in 2024.

“Congratulations Geraldine, on being our 2025 Armadale Arts Festival Artist,” Mayor Ruth Butterfield said.

“We look forward to seeing your infectious energy and love of engaging with audiences bring all things art to life across the 17 days of the Armadale Arts Festival.”

No experience is required to paint a canvas during the festival, and the opportunity is open to anyone over the age of 12.

To enter, go to one of the canvas distribution points, and then submit your piece which will be displayed as part of a first ever Community Exhibition.
