Kyra Bee and the Illegals will be performing at this year's Blues in the Hills event at Araluen Botanic Park.

Blues lovers are being encouraged to head to a concert under the stars at Araluen’s Botanic Park later this month.

The annual Blues in the Hills event will include performances from blues legend Matt Taylor as well as local bands Kyra Bee and the Illegals and Moonshine Trust.

Kyra Bee and the Illegals rhythm guitarist and singer Melanie Dius said she is looking forward to performing at the event.

“Playing in such a line up in the beautiful Botanical Gardens of Araluen with an audience dedicated to good music and a soulful sound is going to be a highlight of our journey,” she said.

“Plus supporting Matt Taylor will be an honour.”

Ms Dius is a music teacher at Cecil Andrews College and has studied jazz for eight years, playing in the Perth Hills Jazz Orchestra and supporting The Black Sorrows.

She originally started jamming with drummer Bart Hayes before Kyra Bee and the Illegals officially banded together about three years ago.

The six-piece Perth Hills-based band features the soulful sounds of award-winning vocalist Kyra Bee alongside the talents of lead guitarist Gerald Ball, bass vocals Jason Maxlow and saxophone and harmonica player Allan Lester.

The band covers everything from old school blues to new rock/contemporary and they were previously awarded runner-up in the Bridgetown International Blues competition in 2016.

The Blues in the Hills event will be held on February 29 from 4pm to 10pm.
