An alcoholic drink made from locally grown apples has scored two recently branded brewers gold in this year’s Perth Royal Cider Awards.

Roleystone Brewing Co owners Adam Casotti and Ross Catalano first started pouring their cider in May this year after seeing an opportunity to put some of the excess produce at the family’s orchard to good use.

Mr Casotti said as a third generation of the Raeburn Orchards, the pair wanted to capture growth in the evolving cider market by delivering a 100 per cent natural product.

“We have received some really positive feedback about the product so we thought we should give it a shot and see where we land in amongst the competition in this year’s Royal Show Awards,” he said.

“To take out gold was a real surreal moment.

“It was a great sense of achievement for the project that we have been working on and developing for approximately five years.

“It puts the icing on all of the hard work and research and development behind the scenes.”

The Roleystone Brewing Co cider took out gold in the New World Dry Cider category beating other ciders from around the state.

The group’s cider was judged on its appearance, aroma, flavour, technical quality and overall impression.
