A local winery has taken home a barrow load of awards at this year’s Perth Royal Wine Awards.

Millbrook Winery had its most successful year to date, taking home a report card filled with industry accolades including most successful Western Australian exhibitor and best sauvignon blanc.

Senior winemaker Damian Hutton said it was the best results the winery had received in the 17 years they had been exhibiting in the competition.

“We won six gold this year and four trophies, normally a gold or two is pleasing,” he said.

“It’s just good to know that with the hard work we put in, that we are improving, moving with the times and making modern, quality wine.”

Mr Hutton said there were three levels of special awards for the best exhibitor in the competition, one for the small businesses, one for the bigger companies and one for the biggest company and Millbrook Winery won in all three categories.

“No one has ever done that before and that for me was a very pleasant surprise,” he said.

“We were up against some of the great wines of Australia, which means the world and the great thing was that we received gold for wines across several categories from red, white and fortified.”

Other award-winning exhibitors included Margaret River wineries Evans & Tate, Gralyn Estate, Xanadu and Deep Woods Estate, as well as Mandoon Estate in Caversham.
