Gosnells City FC took on Mosman Park’s Western Knights last Saturday at the Walter Padbury Reserve in Thornlie.
Kick off started at 3pm and saw hundreds of supporters cheer on the home team.
Gosnells entered into the game slightly apprehensive having lost a number of key players to injuries including a broken leg and a broken ankle.
However, once they settled into it there was no stopping them.
Despite the score reading 0-0 at the end of the 90 minutes it was a victory for Gosnells City, who held their own against a strong and formidable team and did not allow them to score.
The first half saw Gosnells City working hard to force the Knights back, with teammates shouting from the sidelines, ‘slow him down,’ and ‘settle.’
By half time neither team had scored but both were aware of the other’s strengths.
Both teams entered into the second half eager to score but Gosnells quickly settled into defending the goal from the Knights.
The game saw some spectacular saves from Gosnells goalie Adriano D’Alo.
He deflected every single potential goal and saved the free kicks, corners and headers.
The Knights simply could not get past him, much to the delight of the home crowd who cheered uproariously every time D’Alo saved a goal.
The referee awarded a number of yellow cards, including one to a Knights player who allegedly kicked a Gosnells player in the face as they both went down following a hard tackle.
Another yellow card was given to a Knights player as he tugged on a Gosnells player’s jersey and a yellow card was given to the goalie for allegedly taking too long with a throw in causing expletives to erupt from the Gosnells side.
The game ended with neither side scoring but a Gosnells player said it was quality from the lads who had defended well.
Gosnells head coach Alan Dunlop said it was a great team effort.
“We played against a very good side,” he said.
“We knew it was going to be difficult.”
Mr Dunlop said the team had been through citing the injuries some of the players had suffered.
He said the game against the Knights showed the spirit of the Gosnells players.
Gosnells City play South West Phoenix on June 24 at the Walter Padbury Reserve in Thornlie.
