Advocacy group Save the Hounds are continuing their push against Greyhound racing in WA, and thanks to changes to the petition process at State Parliament they have a new avenue to pursue.

Free The Hounds believes that greyhound racing is outdated, inhumane and unsustainable and this Friday they will launch an e-petition, with South Metropolitan MLC Brad Pettitt as the facilitating member.

Save The Hounds secretary Ljubica Petrovic said her group was aiming high with the petition.

“The petition will be asking for an end to greyhound racing in WA over a two-year phase out period,” she said.

“Our goal is to reach 100,000 signatures and we have six months to do it.

“We are giving this campaign all our attention for the next six months, and truly believe we can reach this goal. “

Previously, WA Parliament has only accepted required hand-written petitions, but recent changes to procedures now allow the use of electronic petitions.

The group will also be targeting this weekend’s Perth Cup, with a peaceful protest planned outside the Cannington track, at the corner of Grose Venue and Grey/Liege streets from 5pm to 7pm on Saturday March 19.
