Former Town of Victoria Park chief executive Arthur Kyron will return to WA local government after the City of Canning announced he would take over the reins from chief executive Lyn Russell from June.
Mr Kyron left Victoria Park in January 2014 to take up the role of general manager at Waverley Council in NSW.
He caused waves in Waverley only a few months in after spearheading a restructure that saw 25 staff positions cut.
City of Canning mayor Paul Ng today announced the council resolved unanimously at its special meeting on April 12 to appoint Mr Kyron as its new chief executive.
Mr Kyron will start on June 27.
Mr Ng said he was delighted that such high quality candidates had sought the role with applications coming from South Australia, Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Northern Territory and New Zealand.
“Forty very talented executives displayed outstanding leadership skills and it was indeed a hard task to separate one,” he said.
“But in Arthur Kyron we have found a person for the future who can guide the council and its staff to greater success.
“My councillor colleagues and I look to this future with great anticipation.”
A statement from the city said Mr Kyron still had family in Perth and that had been a reason why he wanted to return.
Prior to his role at Victoria Park, Mr Kyron was the chief executive at the City of Claremont from 1999 to 2009.
He said he was privileged to receive the appointment.
“After the recent election of a progressive council, I am sure we will see the City of Canning become a sought after destination for business and visitors and for those who want to make the city their home,” he said.
