Police charged a 19-year-old Mount Richon male learner driver with a string of offences yesterday after he allegedly threatened a young family with a large knife and assaulted officers.
Just after 7pm a 32-year-old man was driving along Wungong Road, Brookdale with his wife and two children when a car collided with the side of his vehicle.
The victim noticed the offending vehicle had no tyres on its left side and was driving on its rims causing sparks on the road.
He followed the vehicle, which eventually stopped when it hit a kerb.
The 19-year-old then exited the vehicle, along with the victim, before allegedly pulling a large knife from his pants and hitting the victim a number of times.
He also allegedly hit the victim’s car with the knife.
Police attended a short time later and apprehended the man who was sitting in his vehicle.
While placing him under arrest, he allegedly assaulted officers.
Police searched the vehicle and found a number of swords in the boot.
Due to concerns for his medical condition, the man was conveyed to Armadale hospital where he again assaulted a police officer and damaged medical equipment.
The man was been charged with two counts of criminal damage, two counts of assaulting a public officer, being armed in public to cause fear, common assault, resisting arrest and possessing a controlled weapon.
He was also charged with reckless driving, failing to stop, driving contrary to a learners permit and obstructing public officers.
He will appear before the Armadale magistrates court today.
