A $20 million investment towards redeveloping the Willetton Sports and Community Centre is among nearly 50 community recreational facility infrastructure projects promised under WA Labor’s $186 million plan to enhance sporting facilities across the State.

Premier Roger Cook, Sports Minister David Templeman, the Member for Riverton, Dr Jags Krishnan, and WA cricket icon Brad Hogg were at Burrendah Park in Willetton last weekend to unveil the $186 million Sport and Recreation Infrastructure package.

If re-elected in the March election, the Cook Government said the funding commitment will support both upgrades to existing venues and help get proposed projects off the ground, boosting access to sport and recreation in growing local communities.

The $20 million towards the redevelopment of the Willetton Sports and Community Centre would be used to construct new changerooms, provide a new home for the local RSL, and upgrade the netball and bowling clubs, as well as the community hall and other facilities.

Premier Roger Cook said his government wants every Western Australian to have the opportunity to participate in sport and recreation activities they enjoy.

“Sporting clubs are the lifeblood of our local and regional communities, bringing people together and providing opportunities to stay active and engaged,” he said.

“Local clubs are the key to getting more people involved, which is why we are committing $186 million to sport and recreation infrastructure projects right across the State.”

Other key projects south of the river included in the election promise package are a commitment of $20 million towards the Armadale Recreation Centre for new hardcourts, a gym, café, and additional facilities, along with $8 million towards new sporting and mixed-use facilities at Prinsep Park in Jandakot.

The package also includes an additional $2.5 million to complement the $10 million already committed to the Canning Vale Regional Sports Complex, matching the Liberals’ pledge, along with $2 million for an indoor pool as part of the Sutherlands Park Leisure, Aquatic, and Sports Hub (SPLASH) project in the City of Gosnells.

Additionally, $2 million will be allocated for upgrades at Beasley Park for the Bullcreek Leeming Football Club, and $300,000 will go towards changeroom and toilet upgrades at the Victoria Park Carlisle Bowling Club.

The 2025 WA state election is now less than 50 days away, scheduled for Saturday, March 8.
