The ladies from Mundijong Arts and Crafts have a lot to be proud of, after finishing off their 200th quilt for the year.
“The ladies were so excited – it really was a milestone,” club president Jan Johnson said.
Each one of the 200 handmade treasures is destined to warm the heart of someone doing it tough.
Each year, the Mundijong Arts and Crafts ladies make quilts for Crisis Care. And after a particularly bountiful year, they have now donated 1500 quilts in total since they started in 2016.
“The trouble is, there’s always a need,” Jan said.
“But the ladies are always so keen to help out – it’s their therapy.
“When they get together on a Wednesday, they fix the woes of the world as well as their own. And everyone goes home with a smile on their face.”
Jan said that most of the material used for the quilts is donated by the community. And the wadding comes courtesy of a community grant from Doral.
“We really are so thankful to Doral for their support over the past two years. A roll of wadding can cost up to $300 and will make up to 12 quilts.
“It really is the greatest expense and, without their help, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do.”
On top of the quilts, the ladies have also crafted a number of crocheted and knitted teddies, and pyjamas to donate to Crisis Care.
“They really have done such a wonderful job,” Jan said.
