Kelmscott Library officially opened at its new home in the Stargate Shopping Centre on Monday and is now one of the most innovative local libraries in Perth.
It features some of the best technology available including self service book check outs and returns, open plan workspaces, an audio visual equipped meeting room and children’s area.
Armadale mayor Henry Zelones said the new library was a much better space with views to the hills and the opportunity to turn into a community hub.
Kelmscott branch librarian Sharon Britza said with features including a coffee machine it was a more engaging space than the previous building.
“It’s far more inviting to come in and sit down and get a coffee and read the paper, which was one of our big aims to make it a focal point for the community,” she said.
Work started on the former Kelmscott Supa IGA site at the start of last year and cost the city about $900,000.
The library moved from its old location, a former bank on Albany Highway, in November.
The old building is expected to be demolished for improved car park access and possible shops.
