The WA Liberals have ratcheted up their election campaign, with a half a million promises to the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale.

In partnership with the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale, the WA Liberals have said they’ll commit $500,000 to establish the SJ Playground Improvement Fund.

The funds will be used to install shade sails, and upgrade and expand aging playground infrastructure.

The Liberal candidate for Darling Range, Paul Mansfield, said this commitment is in response to the growing number of families who now live in the area.

“The population around Byford and Mundijong is rapidly expanding, bringing an increasing number of young families into our dynamic community”, Mr Mansfield said.

“We have a variety of parks that local families can use, but playground facilities are often inadequate and inaccessible.”

Mr Mansfield highlighted the lack of shade sails at many local playgrounds as a barrier to useability and stated that the WA Liberals’ $500k fund would address this deficiency.

“During the summer, many local playgrounds become inaccessible throughout much of the day—the lack of shade makes the heat very unpleasant and there is clearly a risk of children becoming sunburnt,” Mr Mansfield said.

“Rest assured—the SJ Playground Improvement Fund will invest in delivering the modern, safe and accessible playgrounds that local families expect and deserve”, Mr Mansfield added. “This is part of my commitment to supporting local families and enhancing the liveability of our local area.”
