Jason Buchanan, his wife Ainslie and their daughter Lyla are collecting donations for homeless dogs.

Jason Buchanan his wife Ainslie, daughter Lyla, and her best friend Nancy Jones are coordinating a winter donation drive for the Dogs Refuge Home.

Due to the housing crisis, record numbers of dogs are being surrendered to the shelter, they are bursting at the seams, and they desperately need help.

When hearing about the plight of local homeless animals, Mr Buchanan said his daughter Lyla was at first sad about the situation, but then went into action wanting to do as much as she could to help them.

He said he contacted the teachers and staff at Roleystone Community College who were all too willing to become involved in the project.

“We have set up a collection point at Roleystone Community College, as the girls are year 6 students at the school,” Mr Buchanan said.

“We will be running the campaign up until the end of June, to allow enough time to amass a decent amount of donations.

“The school will have baskets and boxes in the front office, to drop off goods.”

Cash donations will be accepted in named envelopes, to track donations and issue receipts for tax purposes.

“We have set up a special unique donation page for electronic donations,” he said.

The group is looking for tax deductible donations over $2; blankets, towels and top sheets, in good condition; high quality dry dog food; tuna in spring water cans and pet store vouchers and gift cards with all proceeds donated to the Dogs Refuge Home at Shenton Park to help homeless dogs.
