Armadale’s Ron Arthurs will represent Australia at the World Monologue Games this month.

The acting world is abuzz as World Monologue Games returns for its eagerly awaited fifth season.

The global event attracts top talent from over 100 countries and is often referred to as ‘the Olympics for actors’.

Among the outstanding actors chosen for this year’s regional finals is Ron Arthurs, a gifted local performer from Armadale.

Ron will be showcased alongside over 250 other performers where he will be judged by heads of international acting schools, Hollywood producers and even Emmy-winning casting directors.

“Being part of this year’s World Monologue Games is incredibly exciting,” Ron said.

“I am joining an elite group of performers from across the world and I’m proud to be representing Western Australia and Australia. I can’t wait to share my work with the event’s audiences.”

Founded in 2020 by leading Australian producer Pete Malicki, World Monologue Games has grown stronger each season.

“The quality of submissions has significantly improved since we launched the event at the beginning of the pandemic. I’m excited to see what this year’s competitors bring to the table after an incredibly strong qualifying round,” Mr Malicki said.

Ron will be presenting two equally compelling monologues for his submission.

The first of these (in the Endurance category) is about a drag queen who is fast approaching the end of his life, as a leftover.

“I first performed this monologue as a part of a play (The Leftovers by Kyle Kash) in the 2016 Perth Fringe Festival) and it stayed with me. I felt compelled to perform it in the World Monologue Games this year,” Ron said.

The second monologue (in the Main Professional category) is self-written about an aging man suffering from a mid to late stage of Alzheimer’s.

“It reflects what happened to my mother-in-law and I hope it adds something to the public awareness of this terrible disease,” he said.

The regional finals will be broadcast on YouTube from late September to mid-October 2024. The best of the best will advance to November’s global finals, where performers vie for cash prizes and the prestige of being crowned the Global Champion.
