Lloyd and The Leftovers band will release their new video in June.

A group of Curtin University students is teaming up with local band Lloyd & The Leftovers to produce a music video as part of a student-led project.

This highlights a creative collaboration between emerging artists and the broader community.

The project, which includes direction, production, and editing entirely handled by students in the university’s Screen Arts program, is centred around an upcoming single from the band’s debut album, Spin the Wheel. Scheduled for release this month, the album features songs that explore personal narrative and emotional risk-taking, shaped by a mix of folk-rock and Americana influences.

Lloyd & The Leftovers has been part of the Perth music scene for several years, drawing from the folk revival of the 1970s.

It incorporates more modern instrumental textures.

Band members cite influences such as Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and The War on Drugs.

The Social Media Manager, Laxmi Khandal, also a student of Curtin University, said Spin the Wheel is described as a narrative journey that touches on the tension between friendship and unspoken feelings. The song moves through different stages and ends with the moment of confession.

Its accompanying video will serve as both a creative interpretation of the song and a platform for student filmmakers to showcase their work.

While the students and musicians prepare for the video’s release in June, the project stands as a small example of how local collaborations can help keep creative communities connected.
