Cnning Libraries wins first place in a video game competition.

Skilled play, consistency and an unmatched drive to win has seen a local team take out victory at the first-ever inter-local government video game tournament.

On December 8 City of Canning libraries took the number one spot at the tournament held at the State Library of Western Australia against the City of Fremantle.

The cities of Canning and Fremantle both had eight competitors representing their respective teams and playing Super Smash Bros Ultimate on Nintendo Switch.

Canning assembled its team of competitors within the libraries by hosting the qualifiers and semi-finals at Riverton, Cannington and Willetton libraries before taking its best team to the grand finals.

A City of Canning spokesperson said Canning played 246 matches and clocked 13.5 hours of constant gameplay.

“Team Canning were definitely behind midway through the grand finals having had five out of eight competitors eliminated from the competition however we came from behind and took home the prize,” he said.

“We’re wanting to back it up with a 2020 win and we’re excited about another tournament being organised with hopefully another local government joining the mix.”
