The closure of Canning Lodge appears to be complete, with all residents relocated to alternate service providers and all staff moved on.
In March, council voted to cease its residential aged care service at Canning Lodge, with a commitment to personally support current residents through their transition to new care providers.
That commitment has now seen all 29 residents relocated to alternative service providers.
After the announcement, Mayor Patrick Hall praised the staff as a talented, professional team.
“The decision to exit Canning Lodge is by no way reflective of the level of care and support provided by the team to all Canning Lodge residents, they have been excellent,” he said.
“The city will continue to work with each staff member and, in accordance with the City’s Enterprise Agreement, will consider redeployment opportunities or redundancy.
“The city will also assist all staff to find new employment, depending on each individual’s preference.”
The city revealed that just one employee has been redeployed to another area within the City of Canning, with 30 staff receiving redundancies and one resigning.
Examiner Newspapers understands the report from the city’s Audit and Risk Committee from May 31, which was to be accepted at last week’s council meeting, was moved to the confidential items section as it dealt with redundancy payouts to Canning Lodge employees.
