With only hours to go until the highly anticipated $30 million Powerball draw, Lotterywest is still on the hunt for a local Division One winner who is set to pocket over $672,000.
The ticket was one of two WA Division One winners in last weekend’s Saturday Lotto draw and was purchased from Media Lottery Centre & News in Cannington.
Owner of the Cannington store, Mr Tan Phan, is no stranger to Lotto luck, having sold a ticket worth over $1 million in 2016.
Mr Phan said there had been lots of discussion and excitement during the week since the recent winning ticket.
“It makes me so happy when we make one of our customers a Division One Lotto winner,” he said.
“I’ve had the store just over 10 years and we’ve had five of them over that time.
“Hopefully here’s to winner number six after tonight,” he added.
Meanwhile, there are only hours left until $30 million goes up for grabs in tonight’s Powerball jackpot.
Lotterywest spokesperson Pina Compagnone said the jackpot was capturing the imagination of thousands of Western Australians.
“Our stores are reporting a busy day and across WA we expect close to 350,000 tickets to be sold in tonight’s jackpot,” Ms Compagnone said.
The $30 million prize offer is the result of no player being able to match the game’s winning numbers plus the Powerball for the last consecutive five weeks.
“Although over this time we’ve welcomed over 233,000 WA winners who’ve picked up a Powerball prize in the other Divisions, we’re hoping that it’s a player from WA that takes home tonight’s $30 million prize,” Ms Compagnone added.
WA last struck Powerball luck in March, when a single mother of two took home a $20 million prize after purchasing her winning ticket from The Mall Newsagency in the Perth CBD. It’s the largest WA win this year.
Powerball tickets are available until 6pm today from Lotterywest in-store, online or via the app.
Players are encouraged to play responsibly and spend only what they can afford.
The next chance to win big is on Tuesday when a $40 million OZ Lotto jackpot is offered. This will be followed by the $20 million Saturday Lotto Superdraw on 28 July.
