Police have charged a Huntingdale man over an alleged assault during an amateur football match that left a 20-year-old off-duty police officer with a broken jaw.

The victim, who plays for the Ocean Ridge Eagles, was allegedly hit by a Maddington Bulls’ player during an off-the-ball incident at a match at Heathridge Park at the weekend.

The 34-year-old Huntingdale man was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.

He was expected to appear before Joondalup Magistrates Court on June 8.

Detectives would like to speak to anybody who may have witnessed the incident at Heathridge Park, Sail Terrace in Heathridge on May 7 between 2.30pm and 4.30pm.
