Players from the Year 11/12 Mundijong Centrals Junior Football Club faced the clippers at their season-ending fundraiser on Sunday, 18 August in honour of South Fremantle and former South Coogee Junior Football Club player Nick Campo, who tragically lost his life in a car accident in July.

Joel Merritt’s curls were sacrificed to the cause.

Phoenix Cox, Joel Merritt and Tom Davies, along with Daniel Scott, Cale Hillyard, Seth Morgan-McArthur, Zac Merritt and Mitch Merritt all put their hand up for a Clip for Nick after the match, raising over $13,000 to be donated to charities for grieving families and youth mental health awareness.

“When the team received the sad news about Nick, they were all together as a team having just come off the field from a game,” team manager Stacey Siroen said.

“While grieving and coming to terms with the horrific accident that claimed the life of their mate and also left others with a long road to recovery, the team came up with the idea of fundraising to show their support to the Campo family, as well as other grieving families, and to also raise awareness of the importance of checking in on your mates during these hard times.

“The club is now going to make it so that every Year 11/12 team will do a fundraiser each year for a cause of their choosing – it’s a way for the boys to give back to the community.”
