The launch of the City of Gosnells Homegrown Festival saw more than 7000 residents at Gosnells Oval on Saturday evening.

The free event saw residents enjoying a variety of different stalls and children enjoying rides including a mini rollercoaster and teacups.

There were also long queue of parents with their children who lined up for face painting.

For many the highlight of the event was the Illuminate Concert featuring singer Pete Murray who sang a number of his well-known hits for more than an hour.

Kelmscott resident Aleisha Powell said it was surreal seeing him on stage.

“He’s from my childhood,” she said.

“I can’t believe that I haven’t paid to see him, that this event is free.

“It’s great.”

Seville Grove resident Lana Kidder said it was amazing seeing him in concert.

“He was just so good,” she said.

“I’m trying very hard not to fan girl.”

Mr Murray posted on his Facebook page his concert in Gosnells would be the last one until the launch of his new album later this year.

“There was a very nice vibe,” he said.

“Lots of families with their kids, it was a really nice.”

Mr Murray also said he was flattered to have been called a national treasure when he was introduced to the crowds in Gosnells.

Big T of X Factor fame also performed a number of songs.

At the end of his performance he told the audience to follow their dreams and to put in the hard work to do so.

“Don’t let anybody ever tell you, you can’t do something,” he said.

The concert was a success and went off without a hitch but it has been alleged a lamppost caught alight due to dust.

The fire brigade dealt with the incident quickly.
