Six young musical acts will vie for more than $3000 worth of prizes in the 2023 final of the Gozzy Rock: Underground Sounds competition, presented by the City of Gosnells.
CitiesAndStadiums, Hard to Lie, Skye Colcott, State of Mind, The Whathaveyous and Viperchain will perform live in the final concert at The Underground youth centre, in Southern River, in October.
The winner, runner-up, and third-placed act will each receive awards valued at $1500, $750, and $500, respectively.
Additionally, the Mega Music Raw Talent Award winner will take home a prize worth $350.
Gosnells mayor Terresa Lynes said the selection committee had a difficult task choosing from the high-quality entries for this year’s competition.
“A wonderful and diverse array of talent entered this year, and the committee based its selection on originality, musicianship and professionalism,” she said.
“We are excited to be able to showcase the talents of these local young people at the final concert in October.”
Ms Lynes said the competition launched in 1986 as Gozzy Rock.
“Back then it quickly gained traction as WA’s first age-inclusive, battle-of-the-bands event and garnered a fantastic reputation and devoted following,” she said.
“In 2022, we decided to rebrand the competition to Underground Sounds, to better reflect a broad spectrum of contemporary music, attracting musicians from different genres as well as solo artists, duo acts and bands.
“The City of Gosnells has always strived to support and showcase our young people in the musical arts and this competition gives them a great platform every year.”
The competition final will be held at The Underground youth centre, 2 Holmes Street, Southern River, from 4pm – 9pm on Saturday, October 14.
Tickets are now on sale for $10.50 each and include a bite to eat.
