The City of Gosnells received its first national broadband network (NBN) node last week with construction beginning in Langford.
The construction was part of the latest step towards connecting eight million premises to the NBN by 2020 through fibre to the node (FTTN).
NBN WA state corporate affairs manager Philipa Perry said people should start to notice the nodes popping up in their area, meaning the NBN was on its way to their neighbourhood.
“They won’t be able to connect straight away because we still have to get some testing done but they should be able to start ordering services next year,” she said.
“The best way for them to do that is for them to contact their retailer and they should start to receive some marketing material when it’s ready to go.
“This is a new technology, it’s exciting, it’ll be rolled out far and wide across the Perth metro area and that particular area (Langford) is one of the first to receive it so that’s good for the area and good for the residents.”
FTTN technology would deliver fast broadband via fibre optic cable running to a neighbourhood node before using the copper lines to deliver high speed broadband ultimately via very high bit rate digital subscriber line (VDSL).
