The tunnel that allows water to flow under the Albany Highway at Armadale is not living up to its job.
The low-lying areas around the Neerigen Brook regularly flood during heavy rain, causing damage to the road.
So, the City of Armadale has determined that the culvert needs a major upgrade.
City of Armadale mayor Ruth Butterfield said it was “important that we undertake infrastructure upgrades such as these, to ensure the safety of our community”.
To avoid any further damage or safety issues, the city is scheduling the culvert replacement at the beginning of 2024, taking advantage of the dry weather and school holidays.
The project will require traffic diversions and will cause disruption to local residents.
The City of Armadale is currently notifying local residents about the upcoming traffic diversions required for the replacement of the Neerigen Brook Culvert, at the intersection of Carradine Road and Albany Highway.
Pre-works are expected to start in December 2023. But replacement works will begin from January 2024.
