A Thornlie couple have been recognised for their outstanding contributions to their community, earning them the City of Gosnells 2025 Neighbour of the Year award.

Gary and Suzanne Craik were praised for creating a safe and welcoming environment in their cul-de-sac, where they have lived for more than three decades.

The couple, nominated by their neighbours, Lisa and Elton, stood out for their everyday kindness. They regularly mow lawns, look after pets, tend gardens, check in on those around them, among others, according to their neighbours.

“They make everyone in the neighbourhood feel welcome and loved,” said Lisa and Elton. “Families come and go, but Gary and Sue always make them feel like they’ve found home.”

The award, now in its third year, celebrates residents who go above and beyond to build a stronger, more connected community.

The mayor stressed the importance of having a good neighbour and feeling a sense of belonging to a local community, especially nowadays.

“Building connections can go a long way to improve your social and mental wellbeing,” Mayor Lynes added.

The City of Gosnells Mayor Terresa Lynes presented the award to Gary and Suzanne at a morning tea ceremony on March 24.
