Mundijong Centrals Junior Football Club has launched two girl teams ahead of this year’s football season, which begins next month.

Club treasurer Linda Branley said the teams will enter the under 12s and under 15s in the South Fremantle district and are seeking girls interested in joining the inaugural teams.

She said it was particularly important to have girls football teams in order to give them more options when it came to sport.

“It’s good for children who are not so much into netball or hockey or what’s being offered at the moment,” she said.

“We’re now offering an opportunity for them.

“It doesn’t matter what skills you have, join in the excitement, have fun and keep fit playing football.”

The club launched the teams on February 14 at Mundijong Oval and featured South Fremantle footballer Toby McGrath as MC.

Mr McGrath has played in the West Australian Football League since making his debut for South Fremantle in 1994.

The launch was also attended by the president and players from South Fremantle Women’s Football Club as well as WA Football Female Ambassadors.
