The new campaign is aimed at reminding people to report suspicious activity, not just talk about it on social media.

The City of Canning is calling on residents and business owners to help make the community safer with the launch of its new ‘See It, Report It’ campaign.

The initiative is all about reminding people to report suspicious or illegal activity to the right authorities, rather than just posting about it on social media. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the City’s 24/7 Ranger and Community Safety Service.

Mayor Patrick Hall says community safety is a shared responsibility:
“A safe and welcoming community is built on strong connections and shared responsibilities. Our Ranger and Community Safety Services are available 24/7, but we encourage residents and businesses to play their part. If you see something concerning, report it.”

The campaign follows the City’s 2024 Community Safety Survey, which found that only 58 per cent of respondents knew when to contact the City versus WA Police, highlighting a clear need for more public education.

Mayor Hall also stressed the importance of reporting concerns through proper channels. “Every report of suspicious behaviour to Police becomes important data. It helps our Police and Rangers target hot spots. While social media can raise local awareness, it’s the official reports that truly make a difference.”

To get the message out, the City has rolled out a range of resources, from flyers and window stickers to vehicle decals and magnets, available at most City facilities. Community events and digital content will also help drive the message home, leading up to a Community Safety Expo later this year.
