Construction of the $51 million Stockland Harrisdale shopping centre is on target for a late June opening with shop fit outs and final works on the exterior underway.
A special feature will be a massive colourful mural on its northern wall being painted this week.

Contemporary artist Chris Nixon is painting the piece, which will depict birds from Harrisdale and the City of Armadale.

He said it will have striking colours that will easily be seen from far away with lots of detail to appreciate when viewing it from up close.

“The birds are a combination of those endemic to south Western Australia and others that are migratory, this is to symbolise the biodiversity of the area and represent the migratory nature of the community of Harrisdale celebrating many different backgrounds,” he said.

Stockland Harrisdale development manager Prue Cunningham said the mural reflected the diverse culture growing in the community.

The 12,200 square metre centre will offer a mix of retailers including Woolworths, Aldi, specialty shops and several casual dining restaurants and takeaway outlets.

The artwork’s progress is being documented via the Stockland Harrisdale facebook page.
