The State Government has introduced new flexible payment options to help WA drivers who may struggle to pay traffic fines by the due date.
Payment extensions and direct debit instalment plans are now accessible through the DoTDirect.
Through the website, drivers can now also view traffic infringement images, identify the driver of the vehicle, and opt to have the matter heard in court.
Minister Assisting the Transport Minister, David Michael, said he believes the changes will not only simplify the process and make it more convenient for drivers to pay fines, but it also serves as “another example of the Cook Government’s commitment to providing cost-of-living relief.”
“As Road Safety Minister, I don’t want to see people speeding on our roads, putting their lives and the lives of others at risk,” he said.
“However, I am pleased that we are now able to provide payment options through the Department of Transport for those who infringe and have difficulty paying the fine.
The new flexible payment options have been implemented as part of the Infringement Management Reform Program (IMRP), a comprehensive government initiative aimed at modernising Western Australia’s outdated traffic infringement system.
In 2022, WA drivers received a total of 843,593 speeding fines, with approximately two-thirds of these, 546,739 fines, issued to individuals driving between one and ten kilometres per hour over the speed limit.
All money generated from speeding fines in WA goes to the Road Trauma Trust Account, which funds various road safety initiatives aimed at improving the safety of WA roads and reducing deaths.
