Old dogs show off their new tricks at season opener

Kelmscott Baseball Club have launched their season with a huge opener at John Dunn.

The club was overjoyed to see a larger-than-anticipated turnout, with families soaking up the atmosphere and dabbling with lawn games while on-field rivalries played out.

At midday it was batter up for the scratch match between the Bulldogs and Roleystone Diamond Sports.

Roleystone came out on top of that friendly clash with an 8-6 win, and many stuck around to watch the annual battle between the old dogs and the young pups.

Member for Armadale and club patron Tony Buti threw the first pitch of the match.

Then it was on like Donkey Kong.

For the third year in a row the old boys schooled the U35s with a huge 7-3 victory, cheered on by a 100-strong crowd.

The night ended with a beer pong tournament with 12 teams squaring off.

The club has been buoyed by the numbers of interested juniors this season. While they didn’t quite make the numbers needed for a team this season, they’re hopeful to carry this upward momentum into next season.
