Families in Gosnells now have easier access to health and early learning services for their young children following the opening of a child and parent centre in Hicks Street.

Education Minister Peter Collier opened the centre last week and said 21 centres will open by 2016 at a total cost of $52.5 million.

“Supporting families with young children is a priority and these centres will give children a great start to life and their schooling,” he said.

“Parents in Gosnells can get ideas for activities to help their children learn, seek advice from a child health nurse and have their children referred to specialists.”

The facilities include a fully equipped child health clinic room, consultants rooms, a group activity room, kitchen facilities and an outdoor play area.

Mr Collier said the state government’s initiative forged strong partnerships with the community to deliver vital services.

The child and parent centre in Gosnells is operated by Centrecare in partnership with Gosnells primary school, an independent public school.
