Burtonia Park in Piara Waters will receive a makeover next year.

The steadily growing suburb of Piara Waters will be getting a lot of love in the coming year.

Two weeks ago The Examiner reported the new library construction is well under way with a mid-2024 completion date.

But the community can also look forward to another development next year as Burtonia Park undergoes a makeover.

The upgrade will focus on creating a more appealing space for the local youth, including a cricket net, new playground equipment and tornado swing, and an improved basketball area.

There will also be improvements to make the park more user-friendly, including new shades, shelters and picnic areas, a drink fountain with a dog bowl, new pathways and fresh landscaping.

Unfortunately, the revamp does not include the provision of a public toilet.

The upgrade is due to start early next year, with a completion date booked in for March.

The section of the park receiving an upgrade will be closed during construction and temporary fencing set up for safety.

The release of the details of the Burtonia Park upgrade has prompted questions about the potential relocation of the skate park in Harrisdale.

Council has said they received community input into the development of an outdoor youth facility in Harrisdale and Piara Waters, but they are yet to make any decisions on the project.

“We are currently in the concept stage … any future skate park plans will be contingent on a suitable location and any potential funding sources,” council officers said.
