In a bid to be re-elected in a soon to be announced federal election and secure the much-needed WA seat of Tangney in that victory, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced that he will deliver $10 million towards a new Canning Vale Regional Sports Complex (CVRSC).

The funding will go towards three natural turf sporting fields, new club rooms and change rooms, storage, lighting and car parking.

The WA Labor Government has already committed $12.5 million towards the project, along with $2.5 million from the City of Canning.

The current federal commitment would provide the remaining money needed to build this sporting complex.

Over 10 local sporting clubs, 59 teams and almost a thousand players along with club volunteers, social members and parents have been looking for a place to call their own. This new complex will be a sporting destination at the core of Perth’s south-east corridor for lovers of a wide range of sports, including soccer, AFL, cricket and athletics.

It will service communities from Canning, Gosnells, Cockburn and Melville.

‘This announcement delivers more sporting and recreational spaces in the south-east of Perth to meet the community’s current needs and cater for future growth,” Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said.

“The Canning Vale Regional Sports Complex will mean over a thousand local players, including children, will have access to affordable sports facilities close to home.’

Equally thrilled was Federal Member for Tangney Sam Lim.

“This is a game-changer for the sports lovers of Tangney,” Sam Lim said.

“I was so pleased to be able to welcome the Prime Minister to the electorate so we can deliver for this community and keep our local players kicking goals.”

City of Canning Mayor Patrick Hall said the announcement followed significant advocacy by the City of Canning and builds on an existing commitment from the State government.

“We are delighted to have received the support of the Labor government for the planned Canning Vale Regional Sports Complex. This is an exciting project that will address the growing demand for community sports facilities within the City of Canning.

“In order for Canning to maintain its place as an attractive and liveable city, we need to keep up with the needs of a growing population. When completed, the CVRSC will deliver enormous benefit to those living in Perth’s south-east corridor, enhancing the local community’s access to high-quality sports infrastructure and improving social cohesion, liveability, and accessibility for generations to come.”

City of Gosnells Mayor Terresa Lynes congratulated the City of Canning for securing State and Federal government support for a facility that will be used by residents of the City of Gosnells too.

“The councillors, staff and I will continue to advocate for funding for major projects within the City of Gosnells,” Mayor Lynes said.

“The city welcomes any funding commitment that benefits our local community and supports sports development in our region.”
