Cannington police are urging residents to remain vigilant and ensure all doors are locked at all times following a recent increase in burglaries and vehicle thefts within the Cannington District.

In the last financial year, 2,013 offences relating to robbery, theft, or stealing of motor vehicles were reported in the city, an increase from 1,811 offences reported the previous year.

To prevent these incidents, local police advise keeping valuable items, such as bicycles and motorbikes, out of sight and securely stored.

Detectives are reminding community members that vehicles should always be locked, and valuables such as handbags, backpacks, and electronics should not be left inside unattended.

This caution extends to all residential and commercial access points, including garage doors, shop entries, rear doors and windows.

Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity and contact Crime Stoppers with any information at 1800 333 000.
