A fire that destroyed a house in Byford this morning has been deemed suspicious by the Arson Squad.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services were called to the home on South Western Highway, near Clara Street about 5.20am.

A person was seen leaving the home about 5am.

The fire completely destroyed the home.

Arson Squad officers would like to speak to anyone who was in the area around the time of the fire who may have seen anyone suspicious, particularly anyone who may have visited the home during the last 24 hours.

According to police there are significant rewards on offer for information that leads to the identification and conviction of an arsonist.

Concerns were raised this morning that a man may still be in the house but he was believed to have made contact with a family member.
