Three young friends have died when the car they were driving swerved off the road into a tree in Lesley on Sunday.
Kyle Retallack (27), Joshua Cox (26) and Chloe Websdale (23) were on their way home from a weekend camping trip when their Nissan Patrol crashed into a tree on the Brookton Highway around 3pm.
All three suffered significant injuries and died at the scene.
It has been reported that the car was so badly damaged it took fire and emergency services more than three hours to extract their bodies from the wreckage.
“What I can say, the scenes that the first responders had to respond to were things that they’ll probably never forget in their careers,” acting Commissioner Mike Peters said.
Heartbroken friends and family have been posting tributes online, with all three ‘beautiful souls’ well-loved and deeply missed by their communities.
Police say it is too early to know what caused the crash but it appears all three were wearing their seatbelts and there were no signs of speeding.
Major Crash investigators are conducting an examination of the scene and are appealing for any witnesses to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report the information online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au
