A $4 million package of works to enhance resilience of the Western Power network in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale gets under way in September 2024.
The work includes replacing more than 288 poles, over 35kms of overhead line, insulators, and cross arms, as well as other essential maintenance.
Western Power Executive Manager of Asset Operations Zane Christmas said the upgrading of assets aimed to strengthen network infrastructure against severe weather events and maintain a high level of network safety.
“Residents in the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale will see long-term improvements to the reliability of power supply from these network upgrades,” Mr Christmas said.
“We’ve worked with the community and stakeholders, including the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale prior to starting this work which aims to mitigate seasonal and environmental impacts.”
To ensure the safety of workers and residents, the work will be carried out on de-energised lines and planned power outages will be required in parts of Jarrahdale, Serpentine, Mundijong, Hopeland, Cardup, Whitby, and Mardella.
Residents may experience some short-term planned power interruptions while upgrades are underway, and those affected will be notified a minimum of three business days prior (but typically up to nine business days).
“We understand planned works can cause some short-term inconvenience, but we expect these upgrades to bring long-term benefits,” Mr Christmas said.
“Our crews always work as safely and efficiently as possible to minimise any interruptions.”
Residents may notice dust, noise, and excavation work where pole replacements are being undertaken and traffic management will be in place where required.
The work is expected to be completed by early 2025.
