Willetton Football Club’s annual ladies’ day fundraising event will lead to positive outcomes for some of the communities most vulnerable members, according to the chief executive of a Willetton based women’s refuge.
Operating since 1984, Zonta House Refuge Association is a specialist service that provides safety, essential relief and support to women who have experienced, or are at risk of experiencing family and domestic violence (FDV).
Relying entirely on the support of the community, Zonta House was this year’s beneficiary of Willetton Football Club’s annual ladies’ day.
With sponsor Prestige Settlements picking up the tab, the club was able to raise $5720 on the day, thanks largely to the production of a bespoke jumper, mirroring the Zonta House colours and logo, that was auctioned off at a function after the match.
Zonta House chief executive Kelda Opperman said the donation was a vital boost for the organisation.
“The support is important because to end family domestic violence it will take a community approach and people working together raising awareness and supporting victim survivors,” she said.
“We rely on donations and support from the community to deliver our programs and to be able to provide the support to women and families.
“This will go a long way to supporting our clients, and that level of support coming from a local organisation is fantastic.”
