In recent weeks Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale residents have been calling on Member for Darling Range Barry Urban to resign following revelations he wore a medal he was not entitled to at a Remembrance Day service in Byford last month.

They are calling for the MP to leave politics altogether despite Mr Urban resigning from the Labor Party and seeking treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder.

Mr Urban came under fire for disrespecting veterans and those currently serving in the armed forces.

At the time he had also claimed completion of a Bachelor of Arts degree at Leeds University and a postgraduate degree in police studies at Portsmouth University but both institutions have since confirmed he was not listed as a former student on their records.

Mr Urban was unavailable for comment.

Many residents took to social media calling for his complete resignation from politics with some asking for a by-election.

Examiner Newspapers took to the streets of Byford to find out what residents thought about Mr Urban.

Richard Clayton Canning, Byford:
I think that Barry Urban is absolutely disgraceful. I come from a military family, my grandparents on both sides served, many on my mum’s side of the family have served in the forces. What Barry’s done is disgusting.

Karen Parkinson, Byford:
I think he should not be in politics. He has lied, so I suppose he’s in the right job being a politician but jokes aside, many customers have come into the shop and I’ve heard them say they’re not happy with him because they thought he was a different person than what he actually is.

Trevor Senior, Mardella:
I think he should resign.

Helen, Jarrahdale:
I believe he should resign, I believe he’s not trustworthy and he’s lied about what he’s done.
