Darling Downs resident Sally Ellis has been selected to represent Australia at the 2015 pony club Australia national championships.

Ms Ellis will compete in both dressage and eventing as a member of the WA senior team when they go head to head with other states at the championships in September in South Australia.

Ms Ellis said being selected for the state team showed her hard work with her eight-year-old pony Ronnie was starting to pay off.

“I was really stoked when I found out I had been selected because I trained him up from when we first got him, so we started at the baby heights,” she said.

“It’s taken me four and a half years to get him to where he is.

“We have a real partnership that we’ve built up and there’s a bond between us where I trust him and he trusts me not to put him in danger so we can do a lot together.”

Riding has been a long time passion for Ms Ellis who began when she was seven and got her first pony when she was 11.

“My mum used to ride when she was little and I asked her if I could get some riding lessons and I haven’t really stopped since,” she said.

“I really like the adrenaline rush involved and when you see the results pay off or you complete a tough round you feel success.”

Ms Ellis was hoping for sponsorship to help fund her travel to the event. To sponsor her email sallyellis.246@gmail.com.
