The tireless work of community volunteers was recognised last week at a special luncheon.
The lunch was held on December 5 to coincide with International Volunteer Day, which promotes the important role volunteers play in the community.
More than 140 volunteers from numerous groups including local fire brigades, library groups, wildlife carers, seniors groups and sporting clubs attended the lunch at the Byford and Districts Country Club.
Shire president Michelle Rich thanked all the volunteers for their contribution to the community over the past 12 months.
“The skills, advice, experience, friendship, leadership and inspiration volunteers give to our community is valued and many local community groups simply wouldn’t exist without their assistance,” she said.
“All of your actions, regardless of how big or small are making a difference.”
The lunch was presented by the shire with support from the Department of Communities.
