Canning Vale Primary Schol principal Phillippa Berkhout and Member for Jandakot Yaz Mubarakai said they were keen to see State Government money transform the school.

Canning Vale Primary School has received funding to upgrade one of its old classrooms into a high quality science room.

The school was one of 100 selected across the state to receive funding from a $12 million pool to transform a classroom into a science laboratory by 2021.

Canning Vale Primary School will also receive $25,000 to purchase laboratory equipment including 3D printers, microscopes, virtual reality headsets and scientific models.

The State Government will announce another 100 schools selected to receive funding at a later date.

Canning Vale Primary School principal Phillippa Berkhout said the money would be a huge benefit to the school.

“We’ve got about 450 students coming through the room each week,” she said.

“Classes roll through and conduct their science investigations.

“They’ve made do, but once we get the money they will more than make do.”

Ms Berkhout said the purpose-built classroom would benefit teachers as well as students, and she hoped the work would be completed by 2020.

Member for Jandakot Yaz Mubarakai met with Ms Berkhout following the announcement and said he was delighted about the announcement.

“Kids are very curious,” he said.

“If you can provide an environment that enhances their interest it’s a huge benefit.

“This school deserves this assistance and I hope it goes a long way.”
