The South East Regional Centre for Urban Landcare (SERCUL) is in line for a major infrastructure upgrade following a $140,000 election commitment from WA Labor.
If re-elected, WA Labor would allocate the funding to upgrade the main shed at SERCUL.
Formed in 2003 and based at Yule Brook Homestead in Beckenham, SERCUL is an independent Natural Resource Management body focused on protecting and enhancing local waterways and ecosystems through Landcare, restoration, education, monitoring, and research.
Its work covers the Canning River, its tributaries, and parts of the Swan River, bringing together the community, business, and government to develop and implement projects that improve the health of our waterways and other ecosystems.
WA Labor Candidate for Cannington, Ron Sao, who announced the commitment, believes the funding will ensure SERCUL has the facilities necessary to continue its critical environmental work for the local community.
“SERCUL plays a vital role in Cannington’s environmental efforts, and they make such a difference in protecting and enhancing our beautiful natural spaces,” Mr Sao said.
“We are so lucky in Cannington to have spectacular wetlands and nature spaces. We’re even luckier to have an organisation such as SERCUL protecting them.”
SERCUL Chief Executive Officer Amy Krupa welcomed the funding pledge.
“These upgrades to our shed will provide a much-needed infrastructure investment so we can continue to care for our local environment,” Ms Krupa said.
