The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale has been recognised as the inaugural recipient of the Local Government Authority of the Year award at the 2024 Urban Development Institute of Australia (WA) Awards.

The award highlights the shire’s work in shaping sustainable, community-centred urban environments to foster a thriving, liveable and connected community.

The judges were impressed with the shire’s collaborative approach to advocacy and funding for infrastructure, their efforts in delivering planning certainty and accelerated approvals through an up-to-date planning scheme and district structure plans and their customer-centric culture.

Shire President Rob Coales was bubbling with pride after receiving the inaugural award.

“This recognition of the Local Government Authority of the Year Award is a tremendous honour for our shire,” he said.

“It reflects the hard work of shire officers, the engagement of our community and industry stakeholders, and our shared vision to create a place where everyone feels at home.”

President Coales said the shire was committed to ensuring SJ remained an attractive place for the development industry to invest.
