Shoppers farewell Katies

12
There was a queue out the door of the Armadale Katies at times on Tuesday.

Katies in the Armadale Shopping Centre has been pummelled by people hoping to snap up a bargain in its final days.

It’s the end of an era for the long-running women’s clothing brand which first hit the Australian market in 1954.

In October, Katies’ owner – Mosaic Brands – went into administration owing creditors $249 million, and KPMG were appointed to review the business.

Last week it was announced all 80 Katies stores around the country will be closed by mid-January after it was found a number of outlets were operating at a loss.

A further 80 unprofitable Mosaic-owned stores will also be shuttered in the new year, from brands including Millers, Rivers and Noni B.

There’s no news yet if the Armadale stores are part of that tranche of closures.

The last day of trade for the Armadale Katies was yesterday.
