It was love at first sight for a Huntingdale couple who celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last month.
Surrounded by friends, family, children and great grandchildren Redmond and Dellys Kelly marked their milestone with lunch at Willow Pond.
The couple have been together since 1954.
They met at a friend’s party and Mr Kelly said his wife was the first girlfriend he had ever had.
“She was the one for me,” he said.
“I just knew it.”
The couple dated for four years before they were married at St Mark’s in Ashfield.
Mr Kelly even considered joining the priesthood and as a Catholic would have had to have given up his girlfriend but instead he chose to marry her.
He said he had considered entering St Charles Seminary in Guildford.
“I was going to become a priest,” he said.
“But she took me aside and I got a different kind of education.”
Mr Kelly said his wife was just as she was when he first met her.
Mrs Kelly said they loved each other very much and still did everything together.
“He is very gentle and we live for each other,” she said.
The couple have two children Kerryn and Shane.
They said they have enjoyed their time together and have been on many adventures travelling overseas.
Now at the age of 79 and 81 they still have each other and their pet dog Chase.
