The Langford senior citizens club in Brookman Avenue, Langford was calling for more members.

Treasurer Myra Cunningham said the club had about 10 less members compared to this time last year but was hopeful more would join the club soon.

The club holds activities for seniors in the community, which gives them an opportunity to socialise.

On Monday the club takes members who are unable to drive to Carousel to go grocery shopping.

On Tuesday it hosts bingo and on Thursdays it hosts bridge.

Ms Cunningham said the club was great for seniors to make new friends.

“To me they get to socialise with other people,” she said.

“I know myself looking after my husband, I’ve had to give up a lot of my pleasures and I find it hard because I’m used to socialising, so being in the seniors and being a volunteer helps me socialise with the people there.

“Otherwise most of the people would just be sitting in their house.” Ms Cunningham encouraged seniors to give the club a call and try it out.

“Come along and talk to us and see if you would like the atmosphere,” she said.

“They don’t have to join right away, they could come for a couple of weeks and see how they felt and if they want to join they can do so.”
